Weeks like this are known as journalistic bonanzas. We had the long awaited (and not surprising) confession from Lance Armstrong for using performance enhancing drugs. We have a real life actual social media hoax involving a star linebacker from Notre Dame (Manti Te’o) who received countless mentions (and praise) in the press for sticking by his girlfriend who died during the season. Turns out the girlfriend didn’t exist and we don’t know where this story will take us. This past week Instagram released some numbers that show 90 Million active monthly users and 40 million photos per day. Despite any Terms of Service speed bumps, this are some very strong numbers. Facebook make two interesting announcements this week. First, iPhone users can now call anyone via Facebook Messenger for free. Second, Facebook introduced us to the Open Graph which allows users to shift through their social graph. This will allow users to tap into the search power of all of the users on Facebook instead of people you are connected to. Keep an eye out for a new search bar within Facebook in the upcoming weeks.
